The Palencia-Valesquez family of Redwood City had their lives come to an abrupt halt last Saturday afternoon when DUI suspect Agustin Lemar DeLaRiva, driving a stolen vehicle, plowed into the family at a high rate of speed.
DeLaRiva, 29, of Santa Rosa, has been charged with multiple felony charges related to the crash that involved three vehicles and left six people injured a week ago in Sonoma County.
Eyewitnesses to the crash said, "It was the worst accident I've ever seen. I was certain everyone in the car had died and "I don't know how anyone survived".
Community members in both Redwood City and Sonoma County have begun an online petition asking a Sonoma County Superior Court Judge to increase DeLaRiva's Bail when he appears in court on Wednesday, April 28, 2021.
"This family is going through an unimaginable tragedy. Bail needs to be increased in this case to reflect the seriousness of the injuries caused by this senseless act. DeLaRiva has a past DUI conviction and clearly poses a serious risk to the safety of residents in Sonoma County and the surrounding Bay Area communities" organizers say.
